Sad Stuff, New Stuff, Other Stuff
Wow. So many things. This may call for an <UL>. Pretty much everything calls for an <UL> - instead of calling it a blog I think I should just call mine The Daily <UL>. Anyway, here is the latest -
- Granddaddy: 1/10/22 - 5/22/08
My grandfather passed away last Thursday. He is actually my ex-husband's grandfather but I was close with his grandparents when we were married and I have really missed them since we've been divorced. Last week the kids and I went to visit with him when he was sick. I was very glad we went to do that and also happy to find out that his family is still very welcoming of my presence despite the fact that I am no longer technically a part of their family. His funeral was yesterday, on Memorial Day out in the country where he lived. Rest in peace Granddaddy.
- If Prince Had A Car Instead Of A Motorcycle
I bought a new car. One that hopefully won't have 5 million dollars per month in repairs expenses. It is a brand new Hyundai Elantra and they have pretty nice warranties. Also the car is awesome and we all love it. I think I made a great choice. It is purple, Hyundai calls the color "Purple Rain" - *snort*. It has an MP3 jack and XM hard wired into the sound system. Groovin.
- Summer Fun
School's almost out for Thing1 and Thing2 (<< nicknames I just now decided to give my kids). Thing2 is going to Red Hot Robot Camp and Thing1 is going to Yearbook camp because she is on yearbook staff next year. They are some very excited Things.
- I Love Lamp
I watched my dad's 2 cats while he and my step-mom went on vacation, and to thank me my step-mom made me the most amazing stained glass lamp! I am in love with this lamp. I really should take more pictures. Maybe I will and then I'll come back and add them later. I am going to have to become a stained glass artist as soon as it is feasible. I can't even describe how happy stained glass art makes me - my step-mom is truly talented and very inspiring.
- Bye-bye Nova Lair
We are currently working on moving back to Spring or the Woodlands. I really like it over there and I like the schools better over there too, so be expecting to hear more about that over the next few weeks and/or months.
- Discovery Green
The kids and I went to Discovery Green on Sunday. We loved it and can't wait to go back. I actually *did* take pictures there and will share them asap.
- Now Playing
I am currently overplaying Pyramid Song by Radiohead to ease The Pain. No wonder I love it.

Radiohead Controls The Weather (No Surprise[s])
I'm finally getting around to blogging the greatness that was the Radiohead concert I went to last Saturday. I mainly do this sort of event recounting for myself because I really like to remember all of the little details but hopefully it will be interesting to one or two other people as well. Just don't be surprised if while reading this you find yourself thinking, "Hmm, what's with Jamie and all the minute details??" Now you know. :)
K. I truly had a blast and am so happy that I was lucky enough to be in attendance.
Mark, The Rad, got our tickets and my friend Dan and I met up with him and some of his friends at Baker Street Pub before the show. We also met up with our friends John and Steve while we were there, so we all got to have a nice little chat session before heading over to the pavilion.
It had been sprinkling all day and we were worried about getting rained on. I brought plastic bags and Dan was prepared with his super geeky rain suits which we were completely ready to don at a moment's notice. Fun!
So after we all visited for a while we decided it was time to walk over to the pavilion to find our spot on the hill. As we were departing Baker Street Pub I noticed a large rainbow on the horizon - there was only a piece of it but it was gorgeous! Then it occurred to me how amazing it was for us to be graced with the vision of a rainbow just as we were heading to see Radiohead perform their new album, In Rainbows. Clearly Radiohead controls the weather. Flying pigs?? Pshawww, take that Pink Floyd! You haven't amazed anyone until you've got Mother Nature pulling stunts for you.
Oh.
Right.
Rice Stadium, 1994. Thunder ... lightning ... perfect timing. ...nevermiiiind. :)
Although, I actually don't think many people noticed the rainbow, which is just too bad - it definitely got me all excited for the show.
We walked down a really beautiful section of the Waterway which took us straight to the entrance to the pavilion. Cool beans*! Everything was so lovely that night - the sky even cleared up to allow the bright, almost-full moon to shine down on us while we soaked up the tunes. When we got to the hill the only spots left were way at the top, which was fine. We picked our spot, put down the plastic bags and blanket and visited while the opening band very quietly played their set - I didn't even know they were on until they were almost done. Oh well. We also got to see my friend Josh before the show started.
Then it started. The stage set was so freaking awesome! These long glass-looking tubes dangled over the stage and they lit up with color and helped make really interesting patterns and designs during the show. We were so far back though that almost every time I tried to take a picture it just looked like the stage was on fire. Of course everything sounded great. They played the entire new album but also introduced me to some songs of theirs that I hadn't heard before but now love (mmmm, Street Spirit (Fade Out)).
* something Thom Yorke said between songs during the show.
