Lunchtime Poll
You inherit five million dollars the same day aliens land on the earth and say they're gonna blow it up in two days. What do you do?**
**Right. I didn't come up with this myself.

Mmm, Wynona's big brown beaver.

Nu-, I mean, Jarle,
I'm really hoping you were NOT intending that as an answer to the lunchtime poll question because that's kind of a disturbing response. You were probably just wanting to share your love for Primus with everyone, but if I'm wrong I suppose Wynona'd probably be willing to give it up for 5 million.
Freak.

What's MY answer?? Oh that's easy. It would go a little somethin-like-a-this-a:
First thing I would do would be to pack a suitcase or two of memorabilia and personal items for myself and the kids. Next we'd check in to the most awesomest hotel in town before heading to Main Event. At Main Event I would proceed to play the Star Wars Pod Race game almost right up until the time the aliens arrive to blow us up. Right before impact I plan to meet Ford Prefect so that he can beam us up into a spaceship. I plan to take any leftover money with us as it might be useful in another part of the universe. Then we will find a new place to live . . . I'm thinking we might check out the triple sunned HD 188753 Ab in the Cygnus constellation first. And if we decide to stay I'll work on coming up with a better name for it; 'HD 188753 Ab' is hard to remember and no fun. There is also Gliese 581 c which would probably be a better spot for us, but one sun would be so boooowiiing.

i think that's probably the stupidest question i've ever heard.
i'd probably put on my crucified t-shirt, hop on my motorcycle or get in my pickup and drive out to my family's land in central Texas, take some whiskey (perhaps jack daniels), some cigars and/or my pipe, some johnny cash music, and a bible. i'd spend some time in the house, and some time down by the creek.
it'd have been nice to have someone special with me, but them's the breaks.

Dude, Terry, this is hypothetical - helloooo?!
You can take any old special chica you want with you, what do you mean "them's the breaks"? That's part of the fun! You get to say (and take) whatever (whomever) you want!!
I can't believe you wouldn't just leave like me. What's the big freaking deal anyway? Earth is just one tiny little planet ... I don't get it.

oh. i was trying to keep with the origin of the quote. the question didn't say you could make up stuff. in that case...
i'd use a space shuttle to fly up to the alien aircraft, and use a floppy drive or usb flash drive to upload a virus on the alien craft and keep them from being able to destroy the earth. then i'd use my laserbeam eyes and superpowers to fly around at superspeeds and incinerate all of the aliens, except for the good ones (cuz i'd know the difference). then i'd get phoebe cates circa _fast times..._, winona ryder, drew barrymore, and some other women to live on an island with me, and i'd burn the $5 million in a bonfire just for the hell of it because i'd get whatever i wanted and everything because nobody would make me pay for anything (and i could make money anytime i wanted to anyway). i'd bring johnny cash and hank williams back to life and they'd do shows for us, and every night the monkey butlers would regale us with jungle stories. i'd let G-d stay in charge though, just out of respect.

How very.
Exactly. Now THAT's an answer!
Oh, I get it now ... you were being JD again. You know, you left one very big important piece of info out of your original description of how you are like JD in your blog comments . . . duster, hello??
Posted by: Jamie at July 13, 2007 10:33 PM
i haven't worn a duster/trenchcoat much since my high school and college days. i used to wear one all the time. years before i'd ever seen _heathers_. so that similarity is in the past. i didn't want to lie in my blog comments.

Yeah, but, but, but . . . if you think about when that movie came out . . . okay, well yeah, I guess all of those other characteristics are currently accurate and that wouldn't have exactly fit. Oh well. I guess it just seemed like a befitting thing at first thought.
Or maybe you are just being Mr. Technical Pants...
:)
