Orq!
Last night was fun. I went out with some really cool friends. We went to Cosmos to see The Mighty Orq. I've decided that I really love Orq's voice. That really isn't the kind of music I listen to very often, but I love hearing him sing. It also needs to be said that this band as a whole is completely awesome. Seriously. Totally rocking and fun to watch.
Then later we went to eat and I ordered pancakes. Mmmm ... breakfast at 3 AM is definitely one of my All Time Favorite Things (**see video proof below), even when everyone else is ordering mexican food . . . or is that *especially* when everyone else is ordering mexican food? hmmm...
Lisa was video taping the whole night with her new camcorder, I can't wait to see the results.
Fun!!
[EDIT: okay, well some of the video footage turned out to *way* befit this blog entry, so I decided I should just come back in here and add it. Totally hysterical AND . . . And I can't freaking believe that I am on You Tube. Holy crap!]
also other video from that night can be viewed here
Also, Happy 2nd Drop Trioversary to me!! :D

Sudoku and Lentils
Do you know what is one of the greatest things about sudoku? The fact that putting it down and coming back to it later is part of the strategy. I love that part. Every time I come back to a puzzle that I already started I see all kinds of new things. Every time. It's so cool! Being one that has never really done many crosswords, this is a new phenomenon to me - although I realize that the same is probably true about other types of puzzles.
So I'm having fun with my new found sudoku love. Am I the only one that gets a hankerin' for some suudsu whenever I hear the word sudoku? Probably not.
Also, did you know that you can make cookies out of lentils?? It's true!

Shards Aplenty
This has apparently been the week to break old things.
Last night I dropped a very large and heavy glass serving platter along with a smaller glass platter from a top cabinet shelf as I was reaching on tiptoe for a large glass bowl that was on the same shelf. The best part was when my coffee pot tried to break their fall. That didn't work out so well and all three things smashed into a million pieces all over my kitchen. After the shock wore off a bit and I was able to pick my jaw up off of the floor, I have to admit there was something kind of awesomely cool about it.
However, the whole "awesomely cool" thing quickly wore off when I realized that I was the one that was going to be cleaning it all up. Man, was THAT ever fun! ... at 1:30 AM ... when I was totally tired and should have been sleeping instead. Looking on the bright-ish side, this incident gave me an excuse to buy a new coffee pot today. Mine was an ancient hand-me-down type thing. I have no idea how old it actually was, but I think it's safe to go with *very*. I've never actually purchased one before either, so that was kind of fun I suppose. But on a scale of 1 to 10 of Life's Most Enjoyable Things, 10 being the most enjoyable, this situation as a whole only gets 2 stars.
Anyway, the moral of this story is: Do not make pasta salad at 1:30 AM.
. . . or maybe the moral should be: Don't be short.
It's gotta be one of those...

The Necklace
Many, many years ago, like 13, somebody loved me and bestowed upon me an extraordinary necklace.
I truly loved the necklace as it was both beautiful and thoughtful in regard to how much it so exactly reflected my style and taste. I wore it for years and years and years on an almost daily basis, never going an entire week without wearing it at least once. One day it broke, but I immediately took it to have it repaired and had it back in its familiar place around my neck in no time.
It really became a part of me, although that wasn't something I had realized at the time.
Then after many years, the one who loved me and gave me this extraordinary necklace went away --- but the necklace stayed with me.
And I still wore it almost every day for years and years and years. At times I would look at the necklace and think long and hard about when I got it and who gave it to me and how nice of a gift it was. Sometimes I would even be a little amazed about the fact that I still loved it so much. I'd also think about how special it was to have someone give me such a great gift that meant so much to me for so many years.
It was still very much a part of me but I had still not yet realized it.
Then yesterday, it broke again. And for some reason this time I finally acknowledged how much the necklace has become a part of me.
It was one of those odd things that you don't even realize has happened - I was just sitting at my desk and all of a sudden I felt the beads sliding down inside my shirt. No sudden trauma to the necklace, nothing, it was just spontaneously broken for no apparent reason. The bulk of the necklace was still intact and I gathered it into a pile and set it on my desk. For the rest of the day I kept finding little coppery pearly beads all over the house in odd places. I'm still perplexed by how they ended up all over the place. Every time I look at the remains of the necklace, a new random memory pops up. They are those very vivid 'mental snapshot' kinds of memories; I'll just see an entire actual scene from my past and somewhere in it, I am there wearing the necklace.
For some strange reason I have this feeling that I am not supposed to fix the necklace this time.
I know I'm really going to miss it. I already do.
Like a piece of myself.

Tech & Marriage
I subscribe to WAY too many tech news sites. I'm barely paying attention and I already feel like the iPhone has been around for years (for all of those who do NOT subscribe to WAY too many tech news sites (or work for Apple), the iPhone was just announced today by His Royal Appleness).
The best thing about the iPhone (since I'll never be able to own one) is the fact that Apple has buddied up with Cingular; my least favorite mobile phone service carrier . . . you know, so now I can be happy about not getting one and all. Kind of like a negative silver lining, or something. :P
I'd actually love to go to CES sometime (been saying that for ... 5 years now), but luckily Dwight is there now and is doing his best to keep us in the CES know. Thanks Dwight!
Anyway, on to something more fun ... boys. Stupid Homestar Runner behind-the-scenes DVDs . . . curse you Santa! I suppose I should just go ahead and officially offer a marriage proposal to Mike Chapman (again). He is mercilessly adorable and I must have him. Why does Marzipan get all the hot dudes? She's not a broom?
Yes, technically he is married, but Marzipan seems like a pretty open-minded chick, so I'll keep my offer open**.
[**NOTE: Not sure what that means exactly. I think it is actually more of a hyperbolic attempt to get my point across. You know . . . the usual . . . ]
