Adios

Yeah, I think I am about to give this old girl up. Time for a new blog. New software. I doubt any of you will even see this since you are all so hooked on the freaking RSS readers that don't freaking pick up my feeds anymore. NTTIAWWT, I love my Bloglines too - except for when I look at what happens to my personal entries. But I've decided to blame it on my old blogging software. Movable Type 3.11 - it was the free version like 2 years ago and Six Apart has never struck me as being very enthused about its free software users - or maybe it is just the free Movable Type users. Or maybe just me. I guess I don't blame them. I totally should have hit their store up by now for a shirt or something, but their stuff is really pretty icky. I know that isn't the point. I'm evil, there are no two ways about it. Although I was just in their online store a few days ago and saw that they had a cool 32 MB flash drive that wasn't such a terrible offering. Hmm.

How stupid is it for me to be considering moving to another bit of free blogging software by the same company? Here is why I'm considering it:

  1. Only having done minimal research I'm hoping with all my might that I can easily export my MT archives to the new software
  2. Since it is ultra new I am hoping the RSS feeds will run a lot more smoothly and durably
  3. It uses tags - just because I have yet to get one ounce of use out of any of the various tags that are floating all-the-ragedly across the internets doesn't mean that they aren't tremendously desirable. Not really. Could someone please remind me wtf tags are good for anyway? You know, like examples of how they have greatly improved your online experience and all. Or maybe I'm missing the point.
  4. Words that have Vs and Xs in them are cool.

That's pretty much it. Yeah, like anyone is reading this. Sure.

Y'all Go! ... To Cosmos

If you are reading this and are physically able to, you should be going to  Cosmos  tonight. It is going to be a great thing and I am very bummed that there is no way I can go. Here is  Logan's  description of the event:

Ever since our beloved Ian Varley moved away to Austin, the Music Roundtable has fallen by the wayside...quite unfortunate BUT...I think it is time for a reinvention of sorts with a twist...so...Yes, me, your most favorite redhead in the world, has decided to conduct a bit of an experiment with my good friend Pete Pallas at Cosmos Cafe, a very cool little bar in the Heights and quite centrally located (not to mention they have THE best Green Chili I have EVER tasted!!!!)

Anyway....I get calls ALL the time "Hey Logan, I need a bass player...Hey I need a graphic designer...hey do you know anyone who does cool shirts for cheap?? I need a website designer" and on on and on. You can imagine how often I get these questions...so here's the solution folks.

As of this coming Tuesday, September 19th, I...me...moi'...will be bartending...yes, you heard it right...with Pete EVERY Tuesday and hosting an all new Open Mic Night that I am sure you will all welcome to the crappy, boring, unsupportive Houston Nightlife. Not only will this be a cool opportunity to hang and network with the local talent but also to throw down some songs and trade ideas with your peers. Even if you're from out of town and just dropping through, we'd love to have you. There will be all sorts in attendance...not only musicians but photographers, graphic designers, managers, booking agents, publicists, radio people and more. Every week should bring an exciting and diverse yet different group out so...

I invite you all, ...Country ....Rock ...Pop ...indie ....heavy ...Doo-Wop ... SINGER/SONGWRITER ... Whatever the hell you want to play because this audience will embrace any and all artistic endeavor AND WE WILL HAVE A DAMN GOOD TIME DOING IT!

The reason other cities have such a strong music scene is because instead of alienating themselves from each other, they are supportive and coexist happily. So let's get a move on....this is my little contribution to the scene that I know and love. I know you guys...and this will be the TIME and the PLACE to come out and mingle with the finest musos in H-town...and I'll pour ya a real strong drink!

Thx...Logan

Go go go go go go!!!! Cosmos rules, Logan rules, Pete rules, anybody that shows up rules, so how can you possibly deny yourself the chance to be around SUCH rulingness?? That's right, you can't.

Have fun!!

My Boyfriend, The Moon

Instead of telling you a pleasant story about a fantastic outing with my sweetie, or perhaps sharing the less intimate details of a nice time I had snuggling up with my man to listen to a cool jazz CD (hey, it's MY made up scenario - sure, most people snuggle up and watch movies, and that is fine but personally I think it would be way cooler to snuggle up and listen to some excellent musica), I get to tell you the fascinating story about how I stood outside on my driveway alone last night and watched the Earth rotate. Literally.

Have you ever done this? It was a totally stoned moment (sans weed), I just got into a really still and comfortable position and started staring at the moon. Then I noticed that there were nearby markers in the sky (a telephone line and a rooftop) that I was able to use to gauge how much the moon appeared to be moving. It is kind of amazing how fast the Earth is really moving. I also started imagining that we were some how moving farther away from the moon, like some sort of galactic catastrophe had occurred and was causing us to some how separate from the moon - that was a weird thing to concentrate on too. I like to make things up like that despite their scientific infeasibility - this drives some people crazy (you know who you are), which is kind of fun.

Anyway, all of you people hanging out with your loving S.O.s are totally missing out. Who needs human interaction when there is so much going on in the sky? Tonight I am very excited, I have some paint and a wall needing to be painted. Oh yes, you KNOW I am going to be watching that stuff dry. Whoo-hoo!! Don't worry I'll blog about that too.

Also I'd like to take a moment to let everyone using Bloglines that subscribes to my blog feed to know that Bloglines is having technical difficulties with my entries lately. They keep posting the second oldest entry as the most recent and then the most recent one is just sitting hidden until I blog again. I've been talking to them about it, but it appears that they have given up. So I am currently trying to figure out work arounds. Maybe you should just actually visit my blog instead for a while. It is quite beautimous, I assure you. :P

Quartzy Oxazepam

MySpace bulletin  posted by local art space/music venue  Helios:

Subject: SCRABBLE fans

Every Wednesday at 8PM upstairs. (Bring a board if you've got one).
Free coffee when you mention this bulletin.

I would be all over this if it were even remotely possible. What a totally cool idea!!

Just kidding ... I LOVE Scrabble!!

Whamo Presto Bammo

ThinkGeek rocks. Not that we didn't already know that, but seriously, who writes newsletters this good?!?!...

"Woah, the last time our simian bots were copy writing the ThinkGeek newsletter, things were very different. In just 3 short weeks, the heavens have been turned upside down and, whamo presto bammo, we lost Pluto. Just like that. It's forever removed from the realm of the nine(now referred to as the legion of the eight). The scientific powers that be stuck a fork in him, and well, he's done. We'll miss you Pluto.
Despite how distant and morbidly cold you are and how unforgivably atypical your orbit is, you will be missed. But alas, after seventy six years we can seek solace in realizing that a larger debate has been settled for us. Size matters."

Sweet sassafras! I totally needed that this morning. Not only is it hysterical and clever, but I also think it serves as a poignant reminder that we should be considerate of the feelings of all entities in the universe, no matter how orbitally challenged they may be.

Oh yes, and one more thing...
My Very Excellent Mother Just Served Us Nachos.
