Hey Now ... That Was Fun
I just got home from the Houston Press Music Awards Showcase.
Totally fun!!
It was so great how all of the venues were packed much closer together this year. I really hope they continue this in the years to come. The sound was great at the M Bar and The Mercury Room and it was awesome to get to see and hang with so many of my friends. Tonight I enjoyed the stylings of Vibe Committee, Drop Trio, dUNE TX, Southern Backtones, Chango Jackson, and the John Evans Band. I also made some new friends which is always fun too.
Good luck to all of the nominees!
Happy times :::sigh::: ... what a great way to kick off my vacation!! :)

Loserocity
What better to do on a Friday night than to modify my Cascading Style Sheet! Whoever said that I don't know how to party is ... um ... right. What's next on my exciting agenda you ask? Probably going to watch the BBC television version of the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (that I rented), 3 or 4 *more* times. Okay fine, I'll admit it: I've developed a crush on the actor that portrays Ford Prefect. Yes I am aware that show was filmed 25 years ago. When my son finishes building his time machine I am going to go back to about 1978 so I can start dating sci-fi tv and movie characters.
Yep, this is my life. The depth of my true loserocity knows no bounds.
Oh and there's more ... I SO missed the opportunity to meet a totally rad dude that works on the Cassini Mission at JPL. Oh, and he has only done this: "Shadan has worked on several missions while at JPL, including the Cassini Mission, the Galileo Mission, the Mars Rovers Missions and a few others".
Ugh.
I'm going to go and bury my head now.

Evil Geniuses
I can't believe the Homestar Runner people are apparently seeking to contribute to my excess of black t-shirts!
Why?!?!?!? I dont need to be buying more t-shirts now, but they've left me no choice. I mean seriously, if you know of any way that I can deny this shirt please do me a favor and say so.
Quickly!

Glue Me
I had a lot of fun this weekend. I got the two Grass CDs and have already played them both numerous times. The geeks were partying, the music was good, and I was lucky enough to talk to and hang out with several of my favorite people.
Despite all of the fun, I'm feeling very gloomy this weekend. Lots/most of my friends are married or in relationships. It seems like just about everyone is paired off - sometimes I notice this more than other times. I was noticing it a lot this weekend which has me feeling very down. Sometimes it is really hard being alone when you don't want to be. It is even worse to realize that it could quite possibly always be this way.
That was festive, I know. Okay, just so that I don't end on a depressing note, I'd like for you all to ponder the word "gloomy" ... isn't that bizarre? It is like an alien word. Homophonically, it sounds exactly like "Glue Me", what's that about?

Intergalactic Limes
It is about time that I devoted an entire entry to one of my favorite bands, Grass. They are three groovy guys from Austin: Jarle Lillemoen, Mo Pair, and Carlos Lopez.
Anyway, I think the best way to illustrate what I love about this band is to just paste some of their lyrics here. This is certainly NOT to say that their music isn't equally as amazing. It is. So far, I've heard three of their instrumentals and those are three of my very most favorite Grass songs. Typically, their instrumentals are some of their most rawkin' tunes. Like Accenting The Union. So good.
These guys seriously know how to write, imro. I think they have my most favorite lyrics ever, here are some examples...
from Disembodied Sluice (this one has TONS of great lyrics):
"Driving in my car
Driving to Mars..."
"Suddenly a sign,
intergalactic limes..."
"Take time to sample of our cosmic juice
Cuz someone has stolen our disembodied sluice"
from Chocolate Shoes:
"When I get my shit together,
Gonna buy some chocolate shoes,
When I get my shit together,
you will love me too..."
from Birds:
"Thank you Mr. Stork for the compliment.
I can't stay long,
I've got to pollenate the Everglades..."
"Birds are beating on my brow.
They eat spaghetti on my couch.
They like to ride my motorcycle,
and break their eggs against my house..."
from Hey! Ho!
"Walking down the street
I see a tornado,
spewing the Earth juice all over me..."
from Chicxulub (<< rad!)
"I am the big comet
coming to crash
into the Earth..."
from Butterfly:
"If you're a butterfly
And you see two chameleon's eyes,
looking at you
You better fly
Or kiss your life goodbye..."
from Spacecookie:
"Want to go to the farm today...
...and talk to my tree
It's there waiting for me..."
~Okay, this one is strictly what it sounds like to me, I have not verified the lyircs for it - so I may need to correct it, but I love that this is what I hear even if it is wrong. :)
from Mice:
"We're only inches long,
we don't mean any harm
...MICE!"
from Rhyme:
"I don't mean to pollute.
You need to salute
Every time you see a killer in a parachute"
~ again, not 100% sure but this is what it sounds like.
Okay, I should stop. Pretty much everything they have to offer is this brilliant. And the music ... they are just really, really good. I am bummed because they don't do many shows. I've only gotten to see them live once, way back in January. But the good news is that I think I am going to get a few new CDs of their this weekend which is going to make me very, very happy.
Jarle is playing with Blabat tomorrow night at Super Happy Fun Land, and Drop Trio is also playing. I am pretty much in heaven this weekend.
...because don't forget about tonight as well...
TIME TO GEEK OUT AND PARTY WITH THE GEEKS AND THE DROP TRIO!!!!

Programmers Gone Bad
I found this article fairly interesting and decided to give it a new title: A Glimpse Inside The Seamy Underworld of Spyware.
Here are a few quotes I selected from the article:
"Sifting through a stack of customer complaints in June, 2005, a Direct Revenue employee decided to tally the most frequently used words of aggression: 'die' (103 times), 'f------' (44), and 'kill' (15)"
"The unsophisticated computer users subjected to Direct Revenue's ads had a nickname among some staffers: 'trailer cash.'"

Party, Party, Par-TAY!

I am feeling pretty much ditto this entry from last year, but instead of it being tomorrow, it is in 5 days and instead of it being at Kaveh Kanes, it is going to be at Dean's Credit Clothing.
It is still guaranteed to the Teh Radness.
Drop Trio is going to perform again *clapping* and this great radio program that I love has yet one more year under its belt. 11 YEARS!! Isn't that awesome? I think so and I knew you'd agree.
Now I'm off to figure out what to wear ...
Maybe this ...
or this ....
or maybe even this.
Hmmm... decisions, decisions ...
