Make the bad typing go away, Mommy.

There are very few things in this world that are hotter than this.

...very, very few. Which is more evidence still of why I will always be single. Both Brothers Chaps? Married, of course.

Laughing on the Edge

Another one from the Can't Stop Laughing Like A Total Idiot department:

From Jack Handy's Deep Thoughts:
"To me, clowns aren't funny. In fact, they're kind of scary. I've wondered where this started....and I think it goes back to the time I went to the circus, and a clown killed my dad."

I remember watching the original airing of this on Saturday Night Live and laughing about it for days. Some things just really hit me squarely in the funny bone. Speaking of things that make me laugh until I can't breathe anymore, I think it is once again time to visit Mr. Maddox and his graded art projects. Holy crap, this gets me every time...

Bottom Feeders

Last night, for the first time in 4 years, a man uttered those three wonderful little words to me while staring deeply into my eyes.

"... Have I ever told you how much I love you?"
(okay, 10 words)

Yes, yes, isn't love a wonderful thing ... well actually I wouldn't know. Exactly how pathetic is it that he was a used car salesman? ...and that this was said as part of his negotiation tactics?
On a scale of 1 to 10, I'm giving it about a 50.

No, I am not kidding, this really happened. The slime was oozing thickly from his pores; I had to wrap myself in plastic just to be able to talk to him. He also managed to scrounge up a peach colored rose for me before I made him an offer on a car. He didn't like my offer, so I left.
So now I have this lovely event to look forward to all over again. Yay.

You SO want to be me. Why can't we all just ride bicycles?

World Space Party

From the Yuri's Night website:
Yuri’s Night is a global celebration of human spaceflight. On April 12, 1961, cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin made his historic flight around the Earth and became the first human in space; he was an instant hero who pioneered the dream of spaceflight for all people. Exactly 20 years later on April 12, 1981, the first U.S. Space Shuttle was launched.

And now we are celebrating the 25th anniversary of that!
Celebrate at the Flying Saucer in downtown Houston with other space aficionados. Click here for more info.

Click here to get more info about Yuri's Night and for other parties around the world.

I'm bummed that I will miss this, but everyone else should go. :)

Pandora's Jukebox

Holy crap! This sounds promising. Pandora.com is a site for making cool personalized radio stations that are suited to your tastes. It is ONLY about music and not at all about what is popular or cool or overmarketed. Please read the article or try it as I know I am not explaining it very well.

I haven't tried it yet, but I am looking forward to doing so. Let's just hope that it is destined for much better things than being the "MySpace.com of music" - I thought MySpace.com was the MySpace.com of music anyway ... no? You mean people use MySpace for other reasons? Interesting.

Anyway, enough about the cyber-crack - if you try Pandora out, let me know what you think!!

Portmanteau of the Day

Greetings and salutations glorious good blog readers, hi, how are ya, and even glad to see ya**.

The Portmanteau of the Day for Friday, April 7, 2006 is backronym.

Now let's use it in a sentence:

"Frustrated by the fact that every possible permutation of 2 and 3 character domain names had been taken, Isis (what? - I can name my fictional characters anything I want), in her haste to own her very own personalized piece of Cyberbia, resorted to grabbing the first 4 letter combo she could find and created a backronym for it so that people could remember it."

Isn't that great? Actually it sounds kind of fun. I might have to try this. There are reportedly ~97,786 combinations of four digits letters left.

Thanks to my friend SGG for the link.

**[this, ~well replace "blog readers" with "people" to be exact~ was an actual greeting delivered by one of the regular customers that came to the courtesy booth when I worked at Randalls a very long time ago. He said this exact same thing every time he came in]

Causes

I am blogging about two important fund raisers that some of my friends and family members are paticipating in. I'm basically just reposting (with a little paraphrasing) emails that they sent out to get support for their respective causes.

Ride for Kids
My brother and sister-in-law are participating in the Ride for Kids on April 30th. In case you don't know what this is, it's a motorcycle charity that raises money for the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation. My sister-in-law's cousins (two brothers) were both diagnosed with brain tumors at very young ages. They lost one of them about 13 years ago at the age of 9. His younger brother is still fighting it at the age of 15 after being diagnosed 12 years ago.
No amount is too small!! Your contribution is tax deductible and a receipt will be provided for your records.
They have created their own fundraising page for your convenience.

Cystic Fibrosis Walk
My friend Devon is participating in a Cystic Fibrosis walk on May 20th. Her friend's best friend suffers from the disease so she wants to support them and other victims. If you are interested in walking or donating please go to her home page on the Cystic Fibrosis page at http://www.cff.org/great_strides/devonmikeska.
Every little bit counts. Her goal is to raise $3000.

Both wish to thank you in advance for any support you are willing to offer.

The Brave Chicken Little Goes to Zathura and Lavagirl 3-D

Okay. Am I just easy? I've rented and watched 4 videos with my kids in the past two weekends and I have loved all 4 of them.

The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl 3-D -
This movie just completely encourages and celebrates imagination. My little boy loves this movie and has since started carrying around a dream journal just like Max, the main character in the movie. Awesome!

Zathura -
We were greatly anticipating the release of this movie way before it came out (last November) so it is odd that I have only just now seen it, but such is the case. We all really like it - I never saw Jumanji [both stories were written by Chris Van Allsburg], but it seemed like many people who had seen it were not very thrilled about Zathura. I say, nuts to them - this was a fun adventure that kept us on the edge of our couch the whole way through. And the actual game was so cool!! I want one. I might be too afraid to play it though.

The Brave Little Toaster Goes to Mars -
This movie was definitely for the little ones, but I had to fall in love with it when TBLT arrived on Mars only to run into a talking Viking lander. That's the way to score bonus points in my book, baby. I could have done without the Viking being all disgruntled about the whole one-way-ticket-to-Mars thing, but this movie was riddled with all sorts of odd political messages that were fortunately easy enough to overlook.

Chicken Little -
This was the shocker. I had NO interest in seeing this movie whatsoever, but man! am I glad we watched it. It was probably my favorite out of the 4. So good ... we've already watched it three times. I guess the best thing about it [**SPOILER**, um, do you really care?] was the whole alien angle thing that I was not expecting at all. And their aliens were so great!! See? I am all about creativity and letting the imagination run wild. I am. I am a total sucker for that stuff, I admit it.

Or maybe I am just easy.
