Mars, Music and The Coffee Contest

So. I have recently admitted to myself that I am able to make one pretty damn good cup of coffee. Actually I can make a whole pot of the good stuff ::sounding unintentionally and annoyingly like Marc Summers from Unwrapped::.

This is a major accomplishment in my life why? I'll tell you - because I come from people that quite possibly make the very worst coffee in the whole entire universe. I am not sure who initiated it, but apparently there was an ongoing contest between my parents: whoever puts the least amount of ground coffee in the filter wins. They didn't give a crap about taste or the fact that it looked like weak iced tea, the rules of the contest were all that mattered. And so it has been as far back as I can remember right up through this past weekend when I went to visit my dad at his house....where he made this coffee...and also won yet another contest trophey. ::shudder::
It really isn't hard to make good coffee, you just have to use the right amount for crying out loud.
So anyway. I am excited to have been able to overcome this legacy of crap coffee*.

In other news, I went and saw the Roving Mars IMAX with the kids last weekend. We also invited kinda eh and he brought his friend and her kids. The way I am describing it (after having read more than half of the book) is: it was not even a Cliffs Notes version of the book. And it is being compared to the book for obvious reasons. Every single thing in the movie is mentioned in the book but in exponentially greater detail. Smoochy Mocker suggested that it should have been 12 hours long. I'm down with that. And I'd be *glued* to the screen for all 12 hours if they did it [well].

Please vote for Drop Trio to perform at Austin City Limits this year.

SXSW 2006 is right around the corner. I'm all tingly.

*okay, to be fair my mom went off and married a coffee drinker that knew how to make coffee, so I have no recent horror stories from her house. I'm just picking on my dad ::smooch to dad::

Fun Fun In Bry Un

What a totally fun night. I'd say what a great weekend but Friday was kinda eh and Sunday was kinda eh, but Saturday ... Saturday was such the major blast.

I went to Bryan to see Drop Trio/Grass/Audio Flava at Revolution.

I met the guys from Grass and they are totally groovy. Totally. The music was to die for and I think I almost did. My neck is sore - I blame the red bull vodkas. And also the fact that I am a natural born headbanger no matter what kind of music is playing. ::shrug:: ... ow! No, no drunkenness occurred (at least not for me), I just relaxed a little was all. =)

Here is a fun pic from that night:

Ian, Jarle, Nuje, and Strong Sad ... oops wait, that's me.

You can also see other pics from that night by going here.

I hope to see these guys together again very soon!!

A Lesson For The Young Men

I found this while surfing around and had to borrow it because of its greatness.

In other news I am under a pretty severe attack of blog spam right now (like the worst ever). I am trying to come up with easy alternative measures, but may just give up and turn off commenting until I have enough time to sit down and upgrade my Movable Type 3.2. Grrr!!!!!!!!

Firefox Fun

I've been spending some time today on the Mozilla site - hanging out there is always a good time, imho. Anyway, I found some things that really must be mentioned:

1. WHY am I just now seeing this for the first time?? I know so many people I'd like to give this to - think of all of the new best friends I could have :)

2. There is no debating, I simply must do this. Really, is there anything in this world that screams my name more loudly than this contest? I think not.

Oh, and I am two steps closer to actually purchasing this shirt - I don't know why it is taking me so long. I think it might have something to do with this though.

Pondering Gravity

Do you ever look at the moon, I mean really look at the moon and then think about how odd the whole universe thing is? Tonight, whilst driving home after taking in some Southern Backtones, the moon rocked my a$$ off.

It was SO cool. It was very large and hung low in the northwestern sky. Only a little more than half of it was reflecting the sun and it just made me think. I started thinking about how the Earth must be positioned in relation to the sun and moon to cause it to reflect that way. And then, for a brief second, I started to feel like I was falling. Like maybe I could fall right off of the Earth in my car. Then I started thinking about gravity. What an odd thing, gravity, no? I mean really! It is just so weird that we all adhere to the surface of this big, round, watery rock. We, with all of our large structures, endless manufactured materials and ever-regenerating natural materials and all. Think about airplane crashes...how weird is it that they fall into the Earth instead of away from it when systems malfunction!(?) What is going on? It is so interesting to take a moment to view our entire existence from a forces-of-the-universe view.

Fun!

*Note: I know what you are thinking and no, no hallucinogens or mind altering substances were consumed by me tonight.

Dos Mil Seis

I took the kids to see Narnia today. It was mega-good. All three of us thoroughly enjoyed it. I am so glad we went. I wasn't that excited about going to see it before we went, but my 5 year old kept asking to go and I knew that my 10 year old was reading it at school and wanted to go, so I thought it would be fun for them. But man!! I loved it too! Good stuff Maynard.

So I just checked the weather site and am now considering taking a leave of absence to a wintry location. If we are not going to get to have winter here at home, I guess we'll have to go to winter. Winter and fall are very much anticipated by me each year - I could go years without a spring or summer, just please let me have fall and winter. Must be my Pennsylvania roots showing...
As it currently stands, what is going on now can scarcely even pass for fall-like weather and is certainly no winter. Yes. I know I live in Texas. I don't care. I want to wear my sweaters and turn off the a/c. Without sweating.

Ok, enough whining for 2006 already, which reminds me ... happy new year everyone! =)
